Teams

The WSRA selects teams to represent Wales at key national events including the NSRA National Meeting, the NSRA 50Metre Championships and the Junior International Match. The WSRA will pay team entry fees for these competitions and provide management and coaching as required.

Athletes are responsible for their own cost of travel, accommodation, food, ammunition and individual entries.

For competitions run by the NSRA, athletes will need to meet the eligibility criteria listed in NSRA Rule “3.2.1 Qualification for National Competitions” (see below).

NSRA National Meeting

The NSRA National Meeting at Bisley includes several Home Countries matches:

  • Mixed Team of 10
  • Men’s Team of 5
  • Women’s Team of 5
  • Mixed Junior Team of 3

The match is held on Friday, and teams are selected based on performance in the Championship Aggregate (shot Mon-Thurs). The Captain reserves the right to wildcard up to two shooters in each match, in the event that individuals with a high score potential can attend on Friday but are unable to shoot the entire week due to work or other commitments. It is generally expected that wildcards compete in the Weekend Aggregate and Earl Roberts Championship to demonstrate form.

The WSRA will pay for the team entries and provides medals and date bars to those selected to represent Wales. The WSRA is not responsible for individual entries to the Meeting. The WSRA also pays for a tent for the full duration of the meeting, which is available for all WSRA Members to use for setting up equipment and socialising.

NSRA 50 Metre Championship

The WSRA will meet the cost of team entries into the Home Countries match.

  • Mixed Team of 3 – Prone
  • Mixed Team of 3 – 3-Position

The Home Countries matches are shot concurrent to the Elimination phase of the Individual matches.

Junior International

The Junior International is a prestigious event held in early August whcih attracts shooters from across Europe and even North America and South Africa. Traditionally hosted at the Lord Roberts Centre on Bisley Camp, the 2025 timetable is still being confirmed following the changes to the Centre and the loss of the Malcolm Cooper 50Metre Range. In 2025 the 10Metre Air events will continue to be held at the Centre, with arrangements for smallbore events yet to be announced (but potentially at a club in Surrey with a suitable outdoor range). Please check back and watch the newsletter for details.

NSRA Eligibility Criteria

NSRA Rule 3.2.1 states:

3.2.1 In national team championships, the qualification of team members and officials to represent a home country shall be one or more of the following:
3.2.1.1 parental descent; or
3.2.1.2 country of birth; or
3.2.1.3 country of residence for a continuous period of not less than five years immediately preceding the date of the match; or
3.2.1.4 has shot for that country before.

In particular, whilst the WSRA offers membership to any shooter currently residing in Wales in order to encourage participation, those who have been domiciled in Wales for less than five years (and are not eligible by other routes) will not generally be eligible for selection in NSRA-run Championships. Further rules may apply for Juniors, or people who have shot as a Junior for another country but now wish to represent Wales as a senior. If in doubt, please do submit an Expression of Interest to the team co-ordinator and outline your circumstances.
